I agree with you from the end-user point-of-view/experience and for the smaller 3rd party developers. However I can realize that some software companies (probably the larger ones) might prefer to deal with the payment process them selfs.

Given that the vast majority of applications on AppStores are being developed by small companies I'd argue that it then becomes even more important to put up such an m-payments solution.
